MTV Networks International has announced that the 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards will take place in Berlin on 5 November to mark the 20th anniversary since the fall of the city's ionic wall.
Berlin also happens to be the city where the inaugural MTV Europe Music Awards were held. The show will take place in front of the Brandenburg Gate at the 17,000 seat O2 World Arena.
"MTV has always had a very strong connection with the city of Berlin," said MTV Networks International chairman and chief executive Bill Roedy.
"Not only were we there in East Berlin when the Wall came down, but five years later we inaugurated the very first MTV Europe Music Awards at the Brandenburg Gate."
The 2009 MTV Europe Music Awards will take place on 5 November and Sony Ericsson is one of its pan-European partners.
