Stagecraft phoenixes after liquidation

Stagecraft, the Salisbury-based lighting, sound and AV firm, has "phoenixed" and re-emerged as Stagecraft Technical Services.

The original firm went into liquidation in October, being replaced by a group of directors operating a team half the size.

The eight-strong unit is headed by directors Kevin Hughes, Michael Naish, Lisa Tapper, Simon Sketchley and Sheryle Daniels.

Sketchley was previously the General Manager at AJS Theatre Lighting & Staging Supplies in Ringwood.

Tapper said the firm was legally unable to comment on why its previous incarnation was unsuccessful.

Phoenixing is always a contenmtious process because it can leave creditors out of pocket. Last month Event reported PSL "phoenixed" resulting in some impassioned comments.

Not knowing the full story - nor does Event by the look of it - I still wish to comment on this article. I have had no dealings dircetly with this \(these) companies - so this is a general view.

'Phoenixing' - or dumping your debts \(?) - should be made illegal: PSL have done it, others have done - more will do it - and the same people will suffer - freelancers. Before using resurrected companies think about the people who may have been buried in the past.

"Tapper said the firm was legally unable to comment on why its previous incarnation was unsuccessful." I wonder why...

I totally  agree with Mike.Having suffered at the hands of a company that failed to pay me nearly £2K; went bust, and while this was happening set up again using a name that is shortened to the old companies name,  with a web site that appears no different to the old company, I also fail to see why articles are written appearing to glorify such companies.

As Mike has said it is normally the people at the bottom of the food chain that suffer (the free lancer) and funily enough you don't find the "Phoenixing" companies offering appologies and decent wages to those that they dumped in it the last life!

In my opinion companies like this should be labled with their past (anyone with a criminal record is!) then people can deal with them or not as they like. However the likes of stuck for staff keep merrily requesting staff for them at peanut rates, articles appear in other trade press (often written by them) saying how wonderfull they are and the next bunch of casualties are lured in.
