Temptations galore were on offer at Kerrang! magazine's 14th annual awards ceremony, which celebrated unearthly pleasures in unique style.
What was the event?
Rock bands including Metallica and Rage Against the Machine were out in force at the 14th Kerrang! Awards, which took place for the fifth consecutive year at the Brewery. The event, attended by 400 guests, was hosted by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian.
How was the event structured?
Guests immediately walked into a drinks reception held in the King George III room, which had been transformed into The Garden of Unearthly Delights, in keeping with this year's theme. The area included a number of enchanted forest creatures, such as a masked, winged griffin, poison-ivy girls, nymphs and a Medusa-like woman holding a snake across her shoulders.
Drinks sponsors of the event - Jamaican lager Red Stripe and rum brand Sailor Jerry - provided the booze, while the Brewery's in-house caterer, Ingredients, served risotto, goat's cheese bread balls, marinated chicken skewer and mini fish cakes during the reception. To complement this, an impressive ice luge promoting the new album by rock legends AC/DC was provided by their label Columbia Records, with guests encouraged to take shots of black Sambuca from it.
At 7.30pm, revellers were ushered into the venue's Porter Tun event space for the awards ceremony, which saw the likes of actor Jared Leto pick up two awards on behalf of his band, 30 Seconds to Mars. After the ceremony, hungry guests tucked into a two-course meal that included cinnamon and coconut chicken curry or field mushroom tartlet, with a delicious chocolate-and-red-wine cake for dessert.
Determined to do justice to the spirit of rock 'n' roll, guests then headed off to the after-party, which took place at Egg in Kings Cross. A Rockaoke session gave any aspiring rock stars among the revellers a chance to perform on stage with a live band.
Who was behind the event?
Kerrang! magazine's publisher, Bauer, brought in fetish specialist Torture Garden Productions to create the enchanted forest. Angp was behind the stage set, while staffing, audio-visuals and LED lighting were provided in-house. Agency Diabolical Liberties supplied the ice luge, and Rockaoke provided the after-show party.
What were the highlights?
The event's theme worked brilliantly, and the costumes worn by the entertainment - such as a faun on stilts - particularly stood out, even overshadowing some unusual attire worn by suitably outrageous members of the rock fraternity.
